Shirley Mae (Albert) Self, 72, of Center, Texas, passed away on May 12, 2025, in San Augustine, Texas. She was born on November 7, 1952, in San Angelo, Texas, to the late J.P. Albert and Zella Mae (McCartney) Albert.
Graveside service will be held at 10AM on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Center, Texas, with Pastor Porter Brewer officiating.
A proud graduate of Bangs High School, Shirley went on to build a meaningful career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice System. Over more than two decades of service, she demonstrated unwavering commitment and professionalism before retiring.
Shirley was known for her kind and compassionate nature. Her cheerful spirit brought comfort and joy to those around her. She found happiness in simple pleasures—sewing with care and creativity and spending time with her beloved family and cats.
She is survived by her son, Shane Self and his wife Bianca; her brother, Darrell Albert and his wife Karen; and her cherished granddaughters, Erika Kaitlyn Self and Alyssa Nichole Self. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss her dearly.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, J.P. and Zella Mae Albert; her brother, Johnny Bob Albert; and her sister, Betty Ann Albert Wall.
Pallbearers serving will be Todd Albert, Cody Matlock, David Gilchrist, John Green, Truit Whittley, Luther Bradshaw, and Brian Stewart.
