Family and faith were the center of Nancy's life. She truly enjoyed family gatherings, especially during the holidays. She took great pleasure in entertaining, cooking and baking for friends and family. Nancy was quite the crafter including sewing, cross-stitch and crochet. It would be a rarity not seeing Nancy cheering on her grandson at his baseball and football games and she enjoyed doing chores around the house and cooking with her granddaughter at her side. Nancy was very industrious. She attended business college in NY. When her children were young Nancy was a homemaker. After they were in school, she would see them off for the day and then would go to work at the First Methodist Church in San Augustine where she was employed as the church secretary. However, Nancy would ensure she arrived home and be preparing dinner before the kids got home from school. As her children grew older she took on an active role in helping her husband run the family businesses, Charles Martin Trucking and his security business, all the while working for Center's Memorial Hospital as the nursing registry. After Scooter passed away in 1989, she obtained her private detective license to continue his private security business. A year later she moved to CA. There she worked as an administrative secretary in charge of the nurse registry for Golden State Rehab Center in San Ramon, CA. Her passion for law continued, so while in CA she took college classes pursuing law. She decided to return to Texas where she worked for the Parole Board for the Department of Criminal Justice in Nacogdoches, TX. Nancy retired in 2005 to spend more time with her family. Since Nancy was a dedicated supporter of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, the family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, the American Lung Association or a charity of your choice in her memory.
