Memorial service for Carolyn Umbrell, 89, of Tenaha, Texas will be 11:00 am, Friday January 16, 2026, at Paxton Methodist Church.
Carolyn was born April 4, 1936, in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania to Ross and Mary Holbert. She was one of eight children. She passed this life surrounded by her family, January 10, 2026.
Carolyn met Joe Umbrell, the love of her life and they were married on July 24, 1953, in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania. They had four children, Joe Jr., Lisa, Dale, and Crystal.
They moved to Texas in 1973. Carolyn retired from Bruce Hardwood Floors. She was a devoted member of Paxton Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 8904.
Carolyn enjoyed cross-stitching and created beautiful pieces for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as innumerable friends. Her work was impeccable and always made with the greatest care. She lovingly passed this skill on to many of her grandchildren.
Her other great love was cheering on her grands and greats—always ready to go and never missing a chance to watch their many sporting events and competitions. She was, without question, their fiercest supporter!
Carolyn was kind, generous and one of the most humble people we have ever known. She leaves behind a legacy of family and loved ones that spans generations who have been shaped and taught by the best in endless ways.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ross and Mary Holbert; siblings Lloyd Holbert, Donnie Holbert, Butch Holbert, Bee Logan, Peg Robertson, and Mary Lou Scott; husband Joe Umbrell Sr.; son Dale Umbrell; grandson Kirke Umbrell; and son-in-law Elton Barton.
She is survived by her brother Carl Holbert and wife Connie of Hatfield, Pennsylvania; son Joe Umbrell, Jr and wife Sharon of York Haven, Pennsylvania, daughter Lisa Barton of Tenaha, and daughter Crystal Ogden and husband Mike of Tenaha; daughters in love Cindy Umbrell of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Kim Umbrell of Joaquin; grandchildren Heather Jones, Joe Umbrell III and wife Heidi, Emily Barton and husband Jim, Sarah Barton, Krista, Kim Sitgreaves and husband Drew, Guy Ross Barton, Stacie Barr and husband Brandon, Kyle Barton, Wesley Umbrell and wife Heaven, Carolyn Barton, Ethan Umbrell and wife Ciarra; many other relatives and friends.
